Frequently Asked Questions
The Old Fashioned Approach
Working With Old Fashioned Travel
Thoughtfully planned, carefully considered, and tailored to you.
Why should I book with you?
Travelers can absolutely plan trips on their own, and many do.
What I offer is something different: a more thoughtful and streamlined experience the Old Fashioned way: with care, attention to detail, and a focus on getting it right.
Drawing on years of planning experience and extensive personal travel, I help you avoid common missteps, make confident decisions, and ensure every part of your trip works seamlessly together. If or when things don’t go as planned, I’m your advocate so you’re not left sorting it out alone.
Can’t I just use the internet and get the same thing?
Anyone can plan or book a trip. A good travel advisor crafts an experience.
The difference is in how the available information is used. I refine it with experience, industry insight, and trusted supplier relationships to help you make the right decisions for your specific trip.
Good planning also takes time, often more than people expect. I streamline that process so you can focus on the experience, not the research. When questions come up or plans change, you have a reliable source for clear answers and support.
What types of trips can I book with you?
Whatever kind of trip you have in mind, there’s a good chance I can bring value to the planning process.
I specialize in thoughtfully planned vacations including cruises, European travel, all-inclusive resorts, Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and custom itineraries. These can be solo adventures, couples getaways, luxury escapes, group trips, or multi‑generational journeys — each with its own considerations.
I’m certified in luxury travel, group travel, and accessible travel, which means I’m trained to support a wide range of travelers and travel styles with care, nuance, and expertise.
You may not realize that I can also assist with flight packages, bulk business class fares, concert and event tickets, excursions and activities in most cities, private yacht rentals, charter transportation, hotels, car rentals, and travel protection. If your trip benefits from careful planning and coordination, I can help shape it into something seamless, memorable, and thoughtfully crafted.
Do you travel?
Yes, and regularly. I’ve traveled to 29 countries so far, and I continue to explore new destinations and experiences. That firsthand knowledge allows me to offer practical, real-world guidance that goes beyond online reviews or recommendations.
Where is your favorite place to go?
This answer depends on my mood. I’m always ready to drop everything to go to Walt Disney World. As my first country visited outside of the US, Spain holds a very special place in my heart. I love to cruise. Tokyo is without a doubt the coolest place I’ve ever been to. Italy is incredible.
Ask me again after my next trip, there’s a good chance you get a different answer.
“I always plan our trips” or “I hate planning our trips” How much planning will I do?
As much or as little as you’d like! Some clients stay closely involved and others prefer to hand things off entirely, but most fall somewhere in between. This is your trip, and I’m here to guide you.
Can I customize my travel itinerary?
Yes, as you should! Every trip is tailored to your preferences, pace, and priorities. My role is to guide and refine, not to hand you something off the shelf.
I am travelling with a group. Are you able to help us?
Absolutely. Group travel is one of the areas where professional planning makes the biggest difference. I help coordinate logistics, streamline communication, and keep everything organized so the experience is handled thoughtfully from start to finish.
I only need your help with part of the trip. Can we still work together?
Not every trip requires full-service planning. If you’re looking for support with specific components, we will discuss what makes sense and make sure those portions are handled thoughtfully.
What is Travelmation, LLC?
Travelmation, LLC is my host travel agency. They provide the infrastructure, industry relationships, and supplier connections that allow me to operate my business and support my clients at a high level. When you book with me, you also benefit from the extensive resources and backing of an established, well-respected agency.
Travel Details & Logistics
Thoughtfully handled, every step of the way
The details matter. Here’s how everything comes together behind the scenes to keep your trip running smoothly.
Can I book my flights with you?
We will discuss any flights needed for your trip, and I’ll make recommendations on how best to proceed. Booking with one of my partners or on your own will depend on the trip and your preferences. Even if I don’t book your flights, I recommend discussing the options to be sure that your final choice aligns well with the rest of the itinerary.
What travel documents do I need?
Requirements vary depending on your destination. The primary guidance to reference is the US State Department, which you can review (search for your destination) if you have concerns prior to planning. Otherwise, I’ll guide you through what’s needed along the way so that there are no surprises and you feel prepared.
What should I pack?
Packing looks different for every trip, but I provide tailored guidance based on your destination and itinerary. You’ll know what’s essential, what’s optional, and what’s best left at home.
Can I use or earn loyalty points (Marriott, Hilton, Delta, etc.) with my booking?
If using or redeeming loyalty points is important for the trip, be sure to let me know. The ability to do this varies by supplier and booking type, and I’ll advise you on what applies to your specific trip. Just remember that I’m here to work for you and provide the trip options that make the most sense for you.
Do you offer group discounts?
Some suppliers offer group rates or added perks depending on the size and structure of your group. If this applies to your trip, I’ll explore available options and ensure you’re getting the best value.
Crafting your Trip – The Old Fashioned Way
The Planning Experience
Every trip is built with intention and attention to detail. This is how it all comes together.
What is the planning process?
It begins with filling out an inquiry form so I can understand what you’re looking for, including your preferences, dates, travel party, priorities and travel style. This is followed up either with a clarifying conversation, or directly into your initial proposal. From there, we refine the plan together, thoughtfully and with attention to detail, before finalizing your booking. You’re provided with information to guide you through each step, all the way through your return home. You’ll always know what’s been handled and what comes next.
How do I get started?
Submit your inquiry form. This ensures I have the necessary information to begin the planning process. If you do not hear from me in 48 hours, please reach out by email.
To ensure nothing is missed, all trips begin through the inquiry form rather than text or social media messages.
I received your proposal but decided not to book. What now?
Travel planning is a decision, and it should feel like the right one for you. There’s no obligation to move forward with my proposals. Just let me know, and we may discuss the why to see if there’s anything that can be done to make the trip happen for you. If your plans change down the road or you’d like to revisit the proposal, I’m always here to help.
Pricing, Policies & Peace of Mind
Handling travel the Old Fashioned Way
Clear, straightforward, and handled with care, so you always know exactly what to expect.
How are you paid?
In most cases, travel suppliers such as hotels, cruise lines, and tour providers charge the same for travel advisor bookings as they do for direct consumer bookings. If you book directly, they keep the money. If you book with a travel advisor, we are paid and you get our guidance and resources. These payments come directly to the travel advisor from the supplier.
For certain custom or more complex trips, I may charge a planning fee. This will always be discussed upfront.
Are there fees to work with you?
Some trips include a planning fee, depending on the level of customization and complexity involved. You’ll always know this in advance and have the option of opting out if you choose.
What payment methods do you accept?
Most travel suppliers only accept major credit or debit cards.
How do I make payments?
Payments are made securely using a credit card authorization form. I coordinate the process, submit payments on your behalf, and keep track of all due dates. Your information is handled in accordance with PCI security standards for your protection.
What are your terms and conditions?
My terms and conditions are here. In addition, suppliers have their own Ts & Cs that are covered in their booking documents. I provide all relevant details before anything is confirmed so you can review them with confidence.
Can I cancel or modify my booking?
Policies vary depending on the supplier and timing. I’ll make sure you understand your options before booking, and I’ll assist with any changes or cancellations if needed.
I booked my own trip. Can you still help?
I’m generally unable to assist with trip components that are not booked through me. In some cases, bookings can be transferred, which allows me to step in and provide full support. If this is your situation, I’m happy to review options and see what’s possible.
What protections do you have?
I work exclusively with reputable travel partners and provide clear terms and conditions before booking so you understand your options. I also recommend travel protection to help safeguard your investment.
Additionally, I carry business insurance, reflecting my commitment to operating professionally and responsibly.
Do I need travel protection?
Travel protection isn’t required, but it is strongly recommended. Even the most carefully planned trips can be affected by unexpected events. Travel protection can help safeguard your investment and provide support if plans change. I’ll walk you through the options so you can decide what level of coverage feels right for you.
Keep in mind that while I can offer you travel protection, I am not licensed to advise on coverage or claims and you will work directly with the provider for questions on those topics.
Can you beat a price I found online?
In many cases, pricing is set directly by the travel supplier. Therefore, you’ll often find that rates are consistent across platforms, even when booking through a travel advisor. If you come across a different price, I’m happy to take a look and see how it compares to what we have available.
With that said, my role goes beyond simply matching a price or providing a discount. I focus on ensuring you’re booking the right experience, one that fits your travel style, preferences, and overall plans. That often includes added context, guidance, and support that aren’t reflected in a price alone.
Do you book budget or discount travel?
I focus on thoughtfully planned travel that prioritizes value, experience, and a smooth overall journey within your budget. That doesn’t always mean the most expensive option, but it does mean being intentional about what you’re getting.
If the goal is simply the lowest possible price, there are many online tools designed for that. My role is to ensure the trip itself is well-structured and fully supported. It’s about getting it right, not just getting it booked.
